Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from his teammate by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before sprint qualifying due at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he lost control at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was fortunate to escape with just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn leading to the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th place, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's car in third, 0.619secs behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
