Presence Film
The acclaimed director challenges his film-making abilities in this clever ghostly tale shot entirely from the viewpoint of a ghost. As a family including mother Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe settles into their fresh home, the filming device – representing the ghost – tracks their movements. Chloe seems sensing the supernatural presence, and it looks like guarding her. However, the motive remains? The premise is enjoyable that doesn't outstay its welcome, featuring a surprise that may be unexpected. Saturday 11 October, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, Sky Cinema
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
Nicolas Cage embraces his unique fame through this self-referential adventure. The Black Phone Horror
The director's contained scarefest holds up well without requiring a continuation. Set in 1970s Colorado, a series of disappearances has made the youth frightened. After Finney gets captured by the kidnapper and imprisoned in a cellar, he dreads a fatal end. Yet the disconnected phone mounted nearby keeps ringing, with eerie communicators providing assistance, and the intuitive nightmares of Gwen, his sister could save him. An effective horror. This Saturday, 10.50pm, Film4
The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the struggle between spirituality and money, it's a knockout win for Mammon in this director's delightfully tacky film adaptation of the disgraced religious broadcaster and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield portrays the corrupt Bakker, who proclaims at the beginning, “God does not want us to be poor,”. He and Tammy Faye commence capitalizing on the nation's spiritual convictions. It's a riot of poor styling, overdone appearance and bad faith, however Jessica Chastain succeeds to show the real-life figure as a sympathetic figure. October 14th, late night, on Film4
